Course Outline
Adventure, Fun, and Friendship Begin with Ponies
The British Horse Society Achieve Award scheme fosters children's discovery, development, and appreciation for ponies and the great outdoors.
This initiative allows children to engage in a series of small, achievable tasks, rewarding them with a sticker for each completed task as they progress.
Course Modules
This includes the following units;
- Stable Management Make friends with a horse in a stable
- Groom with a body brush
- Identify four different colours of horse/pony
- Give a bucket of feed to a horse
- Put on and take off a headcollar
- Pick out and clean feet
- Tidy a stable (remove droppings and sweep) Identify two different leg and face markings
- Lead a horse at walk
- Groom the mane and tail
- Check tray and water and refill both
- Name five points/parts of the horse Tie up and untie a horse
- Name five items from the grooming kit and use them
- Muck out a stable, lay down a bed and add clean bedding
- Name four breeds of horse
- Lead a horse to the field and turn out
- Help with bathing/washing a horse
- Plait a mane
- Understand horse expressions/behaviour
- Catch a horse in the field and lead it in
- Plait a tail
- Identify three different types of bedding
- Name five signs of health in a horse
